Shout it from the roofs tops! Tweet, Instagram, messenger everyone you know…. Hashtag like a man possessed….”There’s a new Vegan/Vegetarian café in Luxembourg!” Excuse my excitement, but I’m one of those people who was a Vegan in Luxembourg when you were happy with a plate of frozen vegetables in a restaurant (yes that really did happen.) So I get overly enthusiastic when a new ‘anything’ opens catering for us plant based folk – (Seriously, they served me a plate of micro waved frozen vegetables, and thought that was acceptable!) Anyway, as per usual, I digress, back to the point.
Glow located at 2, rue Xavier de Feller in Bonnevoie opened its sparkly doors at the end of August 2016 and I have trying to find time in my schedule to stop by and check that shit out! Fortunately for me, this weekend just past (25th September) was Sunday brunch at Glow and I managed, just in the nick of time, to reserve a table for me and my other half (the carnivorous one, in case you forgot.)
Sunday’s brunch theme was ”New York, New York”, featuring bagels, vegan pancakes, cheesecakes, pumpkin soup and vegan mac’n’cheese to name but a few of the many decadent delights on offer!
Hubby and I had booked for the second serving, 13.00 – 15.00, and arrived as always totally not fashionably at all late!! (Quick tip….If you don’t know Bonnevoie – which I clearly don’t – use that GPS gizmo thing on your phone incase the map you printed off in still sitting on your desk at home!). Anyhoo…… despite our extreme tardiness, we were welcomed with a big smile and shown to a cozy table in the very light and airy café which is decorated in a minimalistic/Scandinavian style with white chairs, high wooden tables and an amazing bird motif made out of dynamo tape!
Laure Goedert, who is the owner of Glow, gave us a menu with a choice of fresh juices and a smoothie as well as a list of the ‘main dishes’ of the day. Following the New York theme these included Vegan mac’n’cheese, Waldorf salad, Caesar salad and a choice of Pumpkin or Zucchini soup. In addition to the menu you were welcome to help yourself to fresh bagels, bread, fruits, muffins, granola, cakes and a variety of homemade confitures (I highly recommend the vegan chocolate spread….freaking awesome!!). All the bread and bagels are provided by Laure’s sister Cathy, who has a bakery/patisserie in town, whilst the coffee is from Knopes, so you’re supporting several local businesses, not just one! This is darn good for little Luxembourg and makes you feel all proud and righteous inside! #LetzGoLocal people!!!
Everything we tried (including hubby’s multi layered cheese plate) was delicious and when ‘THE CARNIVORE’ says he is full after a vegetarian/vegan brunch, you know that’s a good sign for anyone you might potentially want to invite – meat eaters included.
Glow has a Sunday brunch every second and forth Sunday of the month and their Facebook page provides more details. During the week, they are open from Tuesday- Friday: 07:30 – 17:00 and Saturdays from 09:00 – 16:00. Their daily specials are always posted on their website and a range of breakfast dishes and sandwiches are readily available. I was quick to spot one of my all time faves on the breakfast menu, avocado and toast as well as a the Funky Monkey smoothie (coconut milk, dates, peanut butter and bananas) which I am reliable told is delish!
Glow maybe a newcomer to Luxembourg’s growing list of plant based cafes and restaurants but it’s a welcome addition, particularly for those residents of Bonnevoie who are looking for something a little different.
…But as always, don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself and “Get your glow on, meal by meal!”
