Berlin Berlin, meine Heimat. I love to be there and it becomes even a greater mekka if it’s hosting a health fair. The Rohvolution fair already took place for 10 years. The name merges Rohkost (raw food) and Revolution together. And it’s discovered by more and more people.
To eat Rohkost is nothing new in Germany. Great doctors like Dr. M.O. Bruker and M. Bircher-Benner could heal and help so many desperate clients by putting them on a raw plant based diet. But to create a whole lifestyle with chocolate, cookies, ice cream, smoothies -this is 2014. This is booming!
I was overwhelmed by the mass of visitors at the fair. Years back it had been more quiet. But beside my own struggle between a mass of people, IT IS AWESOME that so many people are interested in this kind of lifestyle.
This 10th Rohvolution has really proven that IT IS a lifestyle. It starts at a big variety of snacks: raw chocolate, energy bars, sweet crunchy stuff, dried fruit, savory crackers from seeds with hot or Italian herb flavors.
We go on with juicing: fruits pure or combined with green leaves, blended together in a mixer. And it’s not anymore spinach, you can have the dandelion or nettle in your smoothie as well. There is suddenly a business in harvesting the so called “UNKRAUT”. Wow! Spirulina is booming as well. This little sweet water algae comes in a crunchy consistency right from France. Mostly I don’t like the taste of powdered Spirulina, but the crunch was really yammie!
The list of food goes on: several cold pressed oil manufactures (they press really slow and under 42 degree), moringa power, baobab, green young coconuts, the Orkos fruit variety etc.Who ever thought raw food eating people nag on their carrot can see here a food paradise 🙂
Next to food we have the world of water. Water filters all the way, presented with 4 or 5 stands! Everybody has a good story about it! To outline it, yes you can change enormously the taste of water as well as the refreshing feeling after drinking a glass of water by applying different kinds of filters. But you have to choose which one of the thousands is the right one for you. I drink filtered water for already some time and I always get a shock when drinking water right from the tap: bad taste and no freshness!
What you eat you can put on your skin an vice versa. So for some time there is Labite with his African creme and soap at the fair. Based on Sheabutter and the secrets of his mother he sells a high quality natural product where I’m already addicted to. Whip out everything you have in your bathroom and get these two. I don’t need nothing more. GREAT! And even greater, it’s just based on a local african community and the migrated son Labite.
Of course you can find more makers who bring their passion to the fair. One of my favorites is Urs Hochstrasser. This Swiss Goumet Raw Chef gets you up to change your kitchen! He can speak so passionate and humoristic about following a raw vegan lifestyle that his lectures are always booked out. When he doesn’t teach a lecture he non-stop creates dishes at his stand. And people watch and watch and watch….
Another very humoristic person is Jean Huntzinger. He loves to speak about his lifelong experience as a natural doctor and changing people’s diet, and about his seven grown up daughters, who never saw a doctor in their lives. Beside sharing his knowledge Jean sells natural green clay for daily intake.
They all offer lectures during the weekend. Topics are cleansing, health challenges, fermentation, raw cacao, hormon balance, life experiences, wild edibles, water vitalization, supplementing etc. You can hop the whole day long from one lecture to the other. It’s up to you what you would like to take with you after two days of a fair boost.
Before I come to the end I have to mention one sad part of the fair: Melanie Holzheimer and her business “AphROHdisia“. She couldn’t be there anymore. Some weeks before she died from cancer, just 35 years old. Melanie inspired me and so many people for a raw diet. With all her passion she tought us by videos and workshops in Berlin. She is a big soul of the raw community 😉 Farewell Melanie!
This fair was bigger than ever. What a great value for all of us! We celebrated the abundance of life! I’m looking forward for the next Berlin “Rohvolution” in 2015.
