Do you ever feel tired even though you had a good night’s sleep? Do you ever feel lethargic in the middle of the day and feel like dropping your head on the keyboard? Raise your hand if any of this sounds familiar to you. Thought so…
Recently I’ve really tired during the day. I sleep well and a reasonable amount of hours. I go to bed fairly early and do all these sensible things like not eating late at night and so on. So that’s not the problem.
Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the daily stresses or just this general feeling that it’s summer and I do not get any time off work yet. And really isn’t life unfair?
But… because I do not like to blame the mean circumstances of life for the way I feel I decided to take things into my own hands and do something about it. So when my alarm clock went off at 5:50 am the other day (are you mad woman? get a life!) instead of rushing to get a shower (and almost tripping over the kitten), I rolled out my Yoga mat. I logged into yogaglo (fab website with lots of great online Yoga classes) and I selected a 10 minute vigorous class with one of my favourite teachers. Off I went. Yes, my back and neck felt stiff. Yes, it probably didn’t look very fancy and photo shoot worthy. But who cares? I felt amazing afterwards. The short practice got my heart rate going, it warm my body up and totally woke ME up.
It was a great start to my day and surprise … these 10 minutes set the tune for a day full of energy. I fell awake all day long. I got lots done, I felt more efficient and I was in a better mood.
10 minutes can do that? You must be kidding? No, amigo, I’m so not. 10 minutes spent taking care of yourself can do miracles. I’m not saying you have to get an account with yogaglo (although they have amazing classes) or that you have to do a super fast paced practice. It could be light stretches, sun salutations or anything that your body calls for.
The emphasis on “YOU” and on doing something for yourself. It’s also and foremost about setting an intention and the pace for your day. Imagine how you would like your day to go. Think about it.
Would you rather get up in a hasty, run about to get all your stuff (and curse because you can’t find this or that or because you are running out of time) and leave in a complete rush without have had breakfast?
Would you like to start your day in a calm way, enjoy getting ready, have a nice breakfast and leave the house full of energy and ready for whatever comes up? You get to choose.
And remember: you are the boss. You are in charge of your own life.
Oh and one more thing: go easy. Maybe start with one day a week, see how it goes and slowly incoporate your routine in your life. Small steps … big changes!
